Google Pixel Fold arrives as the company’s first foldable

In a highly anticipated event at Google’s annual I/O conference, the tech giant unveiled its latest additions to the Pixel lineup. Alongside the Pixel Tablet and Pixel 7a, Google introduced the long-rumored and much-leaked Pixel Fold, marking the company’s entrance into the foldable smartphone market.

Measuring 139.7 x 79.5 x 12.1 mm when folded and 139.7 x 158.7 x 5.8 mm when unfolded, the Pixel Fold offers a compact and versatile form factor. Weighing in at 283g, the device boasts an IPX8 water resistance rating, ensuring durability even in wet conditions (although it is not dust-resistant).

The Pixel Fold features impressive display technology. Its external screen is a 5.8-inch 1080×2092 OLED panel, with a 17.4:9 aspect ratio and a 120 Hz refresh rate. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus and offers up to 1,200 nits of HDR brightness and a peak brightness of 1,550 nits.

On the inside, users will find a 7.6-inch OLED screen with a 6:5 aspect ratio, 2208×1840 resolution, and a 120 Hz refresh rate. This inner display utilizes Ultra Thin Glass, topped with a protective plastic layer, and achieves up to 1,000 nits of HDR brightness and a peak brightness of 1,450 nits.

The Pixel Fold’s hinge mechanism is designed to provide a seamless and secure experience. With “fluid friction” across its full 180-degree range of motion, the hinge supports various postures, allowing users to adapt the device to their preferred use cases.

Driving the device’s performance is Google’s Tensor G2 SoC, accompanied by the Titan M2 security coprocessor. The Pixel Fold comes equipped with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and offers storage options of 256GB or 512GB using UFS 3.1 technology.
