Netflix removes the Basic ad-free plan in multiple markets

Netflix is shaking things up when it comes to subscription options. The streaming giant is phasing out its Basic plan, the cheapest ad-free tier, in several countries. This move follows the introduction of a new ad-supported plan in 2022, priced at a lower monthly cost.

Many users have reported receiving notifications that their Basic plan is ending. They are now faced with a choice: switch to the new ad-supported plan or upgrade to one of the remaining ad-free options – the Standard FHD plan at $15.50 or the Premium 4K plan at $23.00 (prices may vary by region).

The ad-supported plan appears to be a hit, already attracting over 40 million subscribers despite not being available in all markets yet. It’s important to note that some content may not be available on this tier due to licensing restrictions. However, there’s a silver lining for parents – ads won’t be displayed on Kids profiles, and Netflix Games remain ad-free as well.

To see what plans are available in your region and their corresponding prices, visit the Netflix website and use the dropdown menu to select your country.

As of now, the Basic plan has vanished from the listings in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, and Australia, among others. This change signifies a shift in Netflix’s strategy, offering users the option to save money with ads or stick to an ad-free experience at a higher price point.
