Huawei Mate 90 Series Design Finally Comes Into View

Huawei is once again making the camera system one of the defining elements of its flagship design.

Huawei is about to show the smartphone world its next big flagship, but the Mate 90 series has already started revealing its secrets. New images have offered an early glimpse at Huawei’s upcoming lineup, exposing everything from the redesigned rear panels and oversized camera modules to the striking appearance of the premium Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design.

With the official launch approaching on October 1, the latest leaks give us the clearest picture yet of what Huawei has been preparing. While the four models share some design elements, the Mate 90 RS stands apart with an entirely different camera treatment that makes it immediately recognizable.

A Familiar Shape With a Fresh Finish

The standard Mate 90 appears to continue Huawei’s preference for a large circular camera module positioned prominently on the rear panel. However, the overall back design has been given a noticeably different treatment.

Recent images show a two-section rear panel with a textured upper portion and a smoother lower area. The upper section features intersecting lines that create a woven or ridged appearance, while the lower section provides a cleaner surface around the Huawei branding.

This combination gives the phone a visual identity that is different from a conventional glass-backed flagship. The design also appears to change depending on the color, with green emerging as one of the most distinctive options in the lineup.

The Camera Module Remains the Star

Huawei is once again making the camera system one of the defining elements of its flagship design. The Mate 90 uses a large circular housing that occupies a substantial portion of the upper rear panel.

Inside the module are three cameras positioned around a central section carrying Huawei’s XMAGE branding. The camera ring itself has a polished appearance, creating a contrast with the more textured surface surrounding it.

The result is a design that makes the camera system immediately noticeable rather than trying to blend it into the body. That approach continues the visual direction Huawei has developed across recent generations of Mate smartphones.

Mate 90 Pro Max Takes a More Premium Approach

The Mate 90 Pro Max also appears in newly surfaced renders, showing a similar two-part rear construction while adding its own visual details.

The model is shown in several finishes, including green, pink, white and black. The upper section carries the textured pattern and houses the large circular camera module, while the lower portion remains comparatively simple.

Images of the front suggest that the Mate 90 family will continue using a three-punch-hole arrangement at the top of the display. The cutouts accommodate the front-facing camera and facial recognition hardware, while the screen itself appears flat with rounded corners and relatively narrow bezels.

The continuation of this design suggests Huawei is refining the existing Mate identity rather than completely abandoning it for a new form.

The Mate 90 RS Looks Completely Different

The most dramatic design change can be seen on the Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design. Instead of following the circular camera treatment used by the other models, the RS version features a more angular octagonal camera housing.

A raised central strip extends down from the camera area toward the lower portion of the rear panel. The Ultimate Design branding is integrated into this section, giving the phone a more specialized appearance.

The RS model is also expected to be available in black, white and red finishes. The red version is particularly distinctive because of its contrasting lower section, creating a two-tone appearance that separates it visually from the standard Mate 90 models.

Huawei Is Building a Wider Mate 90 Family

The lineup is expected to include four primary models: the Mate 90, Mate 90 Pro, Mate 90 Pro Max and Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design.

Recent information also points toward different memory and storage configurations across the range, with the higher-end models positioned above the standard versions in both hardware and design.

Huawei has also continued to build anticipation through offline stores, where demonstration units and reservations have reportedly appeared before the official launch. That gives potential buyers an early opportunity to see the physical designs before the company formally presents the phones.

More Than Just a Design Refresh

The Mate 90 series is not expected to rely on appearance alone. Huawei has been preparing a new generation of Kirin hardware for the lineup, with the company previously discussing a new chip architecture designed to improve transistor density, performance and efficiency.

Display technology is another area where the higher-end Mate 90 models are expected to receive significant upgrades. Reports have pointed toward advanced OLED technology and extremely high peak brightness for the Pro Max and RS variants, although some specifications remain unconfirmed until Huawei makes its official announcement.

That combination of new internal hardware and a redesigned exterior makes the Mate 90 series one of Huawei’s most closely watched smartphone launches of the year.

The Official Reveal Is Almost Here

The latest images have removed much of the uncertainty around the Mate 90 family’s appearance, but Huawei still has details to officially confirm. The company is scheduled to unveil the series on October 1, when the final specifications, pricing and availability should become clearer.

For now, the design direction is already evident. The standard Mate 90 and Pro Max emphasize the large circular camera system and textured two-tone rear panels, while the Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design takes a more exclusive route with its angular camera housing and distinctive finishes.

With the launch only days away, the Mate 90 series is moving from leaks and speculation into its final stage. Huawei’s October event will reveal which of the reported features make it into the finished devices and how the new flagship family will position itself in the increasingly competitive premium smartphone market.
