Google will remove dedicated search button on Android

Android users might soon experience a significant change to the Google app with regards to the search button. A recent discovery by tipster Assembly Debug suggests Google is testing major UI revisions that could remove the iconic bottom search bar.

This update, spotted in the Google beta app (version 15.32.37.28.arm64), showcases various layouts, none featuring the familiar search bar at the bottom.

While Google hasn’t officially confirmed the removal or its reasoning, speculation points towards data-driven insights. The tipster suggests the new UI is “modelled after how actual users interact with the app,” implying data analysis might be guiding Google’s design choices.

Don’t panic! The search functionality isn’t disappearing entirely. The update likely impacts the search option within the Discover section or browsing collections. The search widget on the home screen is expected to remain functional.

These potential Google app changes come on the heels of a similar design shift in the Play Store. Google recently removed the top search button and introduced a dedicated search tab at the bottom. This move might be influencing the Google app’s redesign philosophy.

A recent 9to5Google report revealed Google is rolling out an update that restricts users’ ability to customize the search bar widget on Android. This update, initially targeting Pixel and Samsung devices, might be a further hint towards an overall Google app redesign.

While the exact details remain under wraps, Google seems to be testing a more streamlined search experience within the app. We can anticipate a potential shift away from the bottom search bar and possibly a more integrated search functionality into other areas of the app.

As Google officially announces these changes or the beta testing progresses, we’ll have a clearer picture of the revamped Google app and its impact on user experience.
