Samsung Finally Brings Android 17 to the Galaxy S24 Series

The Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra are now part of Samsungโ€™s stable One UI 9 rollout.

Samsung’s Android 17 rollout is moving into another major phase, and this time some of its most popular 2024 flagship phones are getting the attention. The company has started sending the stable One UI 9 update to the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6, bringing Samsung’s latest software experience to another generation of premium devices.

The rollout has started in South Korea, Samsung’s home market, before expanding to other regions. For owners of these phones, the arrival is significant because One UI 9 is not simply another security update. It brings Android 17 alongside a collection of new Galaxy AI tools, interface improvements, privacy features and smarter ways to handle everyday tasks.

The Galaxy S24 Series Joins the One UI 9 Rollout

The Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra are now part of Samsung’s stable One UI 9 rollout. The update follows releases for newer devices, including the Galaxy S26 series, Galaxy S25 lineup and the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7.

Samsung initially introduced One UI 9 with its newer foldable generation before beginning the wider rollout across its flagship portfolio. The arrival on the S24 family shows that the company is now moving deeper into its previous-generation premium phones.

For Galaxy S24 owners who participated in the One UI 9 beta, the stable update is relatively small at around 500MB. Those moving directly from One UI 8.5, however, will need to download a much larger package of approximately 3.8GB.

That difference is expected because beta users already have much of the underlying software installed, while users coming from the previous stable version need the complete upgrade package.

Samsung’s Foldables Get the Same Upgrade

The Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 are receiving One UI 9 at the same time as the Galaxy S24 family.

For beta participants, the update is around 408MB. Users upgrading from One UI 8.5 should expect a download of approximately 3.5GB.

The simultaneous rollout is important for Samsung’s 2024 foldables because the company is bringing several of the newer Galaxy software experiences to devices that are still capable of taking advantage of the latest features.

The update also continues Samsung’s broader strategy of keeping its premium Galaxy devices on a common software platform, allowing newer features to gradually move across different generations and form factors.

One UI 9 Is More Than an Android 17 Upgrade

Android 17 is the foundation, but One UI 9 is where Samsung adds its own layer of features and changes.

Samsung says the software focuses heavily on making Galaxy AI more useful in everyday situations. One of the highlighted additions is My FanCam, which can automatically track a selected person in a recorded video and keep them centered as they move through the frame.

That could be particularly useful for people recording performances, sports events, family moments or other situations where manually keeping a subject in the center of the frame is difficult.

Now Brief is also becoming more customizable through Generative and Editable Cards. Users can choose the information they want to see in their daily summaries, including areas such as health, weather and video.

Another feature called Now Nudge is designed to provide context-aware suggestions based on what users are doing. Samsung gives examples such as recognizing relevant information during conversations and making it easier to save locations or add event details to a calendar without leaving the current activity.

More Useful Tools Across the Galaxy Experience

One UI 9 also brings improvements to several existing Samsung tools.

Creative Studio can suggest image-generation ideas based on upcoming events, while Interpreter receives a Thread View that makes translated conversations easier to follow by providing access to previous exchanges.

Document Scan has also been improved to handle more difficult materials, including curved pages and documents with folded corners. Samsung says the feature requires less manual adjustment, potentially making it easier to turn physical documents into clean digital files.

Voice Recorder is receiving a more structured approach to summaries as well, with information presented using elements such as headings and tables for easier reading.

Security Gets More Attention

Samsung is also using One UI 9 to strengthen the security and privacy side of the Galaxy experience.

Security Brief can bring important security information into Now Brief, including alerts involving malware, applications from unknown sources and unnecessary permissions.

Privacy Alerts use on-device AI to identify potential privacy concerns, including situations where applications may be attempting to access permissions in the background without a clear reason.

Samsung is also expanding Scam Detection to additional markets and languages. The company specifically lists India among the countries where Scam Detection will be available, although availability can vary depending on device, region, language and software version.

The Rollout Is Still in Its Early Stage

For now, Galaxy S24 series and Z Fold6/Z Flip6 owners in South Korea are the first to receive the stable update. Samsung has not indicated that every market will receive it simultaneously, so users in other countries may need to wait.

The company has followed a phased approach with previous One UI 9 releases, meaning availability can depend on region, carrier and device model. Samsung’s own One UI information also notes that rollout timing varies across devices and markets.

This means Galaxy S24, Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 owners should not be concerned if the update does not immediately appear on their phones. The Korean release is the beginning of this stage of the rollout rather than the final global release.

Samsung’s latest move also makes the One UI 9 rollout much more interesting. What started with the newest Galaxy hardware is now reaching devices from the 2024 generation, bringing Android 17 and Samsung’s newest AI, privacy and productivity features to a much larger Galaxy user base.

For Galaxy S24, Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 owners, the wait for Samsung’s latest software is finally coming to an end. The only question now is how quickly One UI 9 will make its way from South Korea to the rest of the world.
