Galaxy S27 Ultra May Get Heavier Despite Same Slim Profile
The reported Galaxy S27 Ultra figure becomes more interesting when compared with the previous generations.

Samsung may be about to make its next Ultra phone heavier, even while keeping it just as slim. A new leak surrounding the Galaxy S27 Ultra suggests that the upcoming flagship could weigh 218 grams, marking a small increase over the current Galaxy S26 Ultra. The surprising part is that the phone is reportedly expected to maintain the same 7.9mm thickness.
That combination could signal a change in Samsung’s priorities for its next-generation flagship. Instead of continuing to reduce the weight of the Ultra model, the company may be using the available space for additional hardware, with a larger battery being one possible explanation.
A Small Weight Increase
According to information shared by tipster Ice Universe, the Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to weigh 218 grams. If accurate, that would make it 4 grams heavier than the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which weighs 214 grams.
Four grams may sound insignificant on paper, but weight is an important part of the physical design of a large flagship smartphone. Samsung has spent recent generations making its Ultra models thinner and lighter, so even a modest increase represents a change in that direction.
The reported figure would also put the Galaxy S27 Ultra at the same weight as the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which was listed at 218 grams.
The Thickness May Stay Exactly the Same
Interestingly, the reported increase in weight does not appear to come with a thicker body.
The Galaxy S27 Ultra is tipped to measure 7.9mm thick, exactly matching the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Samsung’s current Ultra model measures 7.9mm and weighs 214 grams, according to the company’s official specifications.
Maintaining the same thickness while adding four grams suggests that Samsung could be rearranging or upgrading components inside the chassis rather than simply making the phone larger.
That distinction could become more important if other reported hardware changes make their way into the final device.
A Bigger Battery Could Explain the Extra Weight
One possible reason for the additional weight is the battery.
Recent reports have suggested that Samsung could increase the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s battery capacity to around 5,700mAh, compared with the 5,000mAh battery used in the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
If that information proves accurate, the extra battery capacity could help explain why the upcoming Ultra model is reportedly heavier while maintaining the same overall thickness.
A larger battery would also represent a meaningful hardware change for a flagship that has historically placed considerable emphasis on balancing performance, battery life and a relatively slim body.
However, Samsung has not officially confirmed the reported 5,700mAh capacity or the 218-gram weight, so both details should currently be treated as leaks.
Samsung Has Been Cutting Weight
The reported Galaxy S27 Ultra figure becomes more interesting when compared with the previous generations.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra weighed 234 grams, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra came in at roughly 232 to 233 grams. The Galaxy S25 Ultra then dropped to 218 grams before the Galaxy S26 Ultra reduced the figure further to 214 grams.
That means Samsung had been moving toward lighter Ultra models before the reported S27 Ultra figure potentially reverses that trend.
If the 218-gram specification turns out to be accurate, the new model would still be significantly lighter than some earlier Ultra generations. It would simply mark a pause in Samsung’s recent effort to reduce the weight of its largest flagship.
What Users Could Notice
A four-gram difference is unlikely to dramatically change how the phone feels in everyday use. The larger question is what Samsung is putting into those additional grams.
If the extra weight is connected to a larger battery, users could potentially gain additional capacity without having to carry a noticeably thicker smartphone. That could be particularly relevant for people who use their phones heavily for gaming, photography, video recording and other demanding tasks.
The reported dimensions also suggest that Samsung is trying to maintain the physical proportions of the current Ultra design while potentially changing what sits inside it.
More Galaxy S27 Ultra Details Are Emerging
The weight leak comes as other details about Samsung’s next Ultra flagship continue to surface ahead of its expected launch.
The Galaxy S27 Ultra is still some distance from an official unveiling, meaning specifications can change during development. Reports and leaks can provide clues about Samsung’s plans, but they should not be confused with confirmed product specifications.
For now, the reported 218-gram weight and 7.9mm thickness paint an interesting picture. Samsung may be preparing a phone that is physically almost identical in thickness to the Galaxy S26 Ultra while carrying slightly more weight.
If the larger battery reports are also accurate, that extra weight could ultimately be less about making the phone heavier and more about fitting additional capacity into the same slim flagship design.
Until Samsung officially reveals the Galaxy S27 Ultra, however, the 218-gram figure remains a reported specification rather than a confirmed one.
