Hitachi Payments deploys first UPI-only ATM’s

Hitachi Payment Services has partnered with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to launch India’s first UPI ATM, offering a secure and convenient way to withdraw cash without a debit card.

This innovative ATM leverages the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), India’s popular digital payments platform, to eliminate the risk of card skimming by fraudsters.

Hitachi’s Money Spot UPI ATM aims to boost financial inclusion, particularly in areas with limited access to traditional banking infrastructure and low debit card penetration.

“The UPI ATM is a testament to our commitment to making innovative banking services accessible to all citizens,” said Sumil Vikamsey, Managing Director and CEO of Hitachi Payment Services’ cash business.

Hitachi, already the only White Label ATM operator offering cash deposits at over 3,000 locations, is taking a significant leap forward with this technology. Built on the Android operating system, the Money Spot UPI ATM opens doors to future advancements, allowing for a transition from legacy systems to solutions that embrace evolving technologies.

This launch marks a major step for Hitachi Payment Services in India. Since acquiring Prizm Payments in 2013, the company has grown into a comprehensive payment solutions provider, offering ATM services, cash recycling machines, white label ATMs, point-of-sale solutions, toll and transit solutions, and payment gateway solutions.
